I got a HP printer for Easter my mom has one exactly the same but a few years older. It was a good buy on her part I think. Easy to hook up plug in the USB cable and the computer detected it right away. I still had to install the software but I could pick and choose what I wanted and didn't want. The scanning is really easy just slap whatever you need scanned push the scan button on the printer and it opens the program automatically on the computer.
The program also has a bunch of different settings so that you can edit the picture right there and that helps a lot for scanning lineart as often as I do. It's easy to make copies you just put in the document push copy and select how many. You also can plug your camera right into the front of it to print pictures which comes in handy too. The printing is very good on photo paper and regular paper.
My only real big problem is the fact that the ink doesn't last long becase the cartridges are so small. Our old printer had huge cartridges in it and it lasted a long time. If I run out of ink I'm out for a year sometimes longer because it's expensive and refilling doesn't always work. It does have paper jamming fits sometimes but that could be that it needs to be cleaned and my electronics tend to get quite dusty. Other then that I have no complaints I've never been a huge fan of HP computers but they do a damn fine job on printers.
