The HP 5550 inkjet photo printer was purchased as part of a computer package, so it wasn't like I really got to pick it out. I have had it for several years now and I guess truth be told, it hasn't malperformed enough where I have replaced it. However, it has gotten me so mad at time I would have really liked to kick it! The overall print quality is actually pretty good. If you have a photo ink cartridge in, print in photo quality mode on photo paper, what you get looks like it was just developed at a photo lab. However, the amount of ink used is massive for photos and you can go through a $40 cartridge printing out 30 photos. The printer performs well for simple black and white pages, such as reports, but that is the extent of my praise. I have had repeated trouble with paper jams. Part of the problem is the paper tray capacity is not large and if you put too much in it, it will pull out more than one sheet at a time and jam all up in the rollers. I print at least 50 packing slips a day and at least 1-2 times a week, I have a major jam if I try to print them all at once. The printer has had a good cleaning/dusting, so that is not part of the problem. My only other complaint is that it is LOUD. Seriously, sometimes it really sounds like a typewriter is clicking away instead of the letters being printed! Overall, this printer does the job but delivers an equal amount of frustration with it's productivity.
