When David Archuleta showed up in American Idol for the first time, I started to fall in love with his voice. And what a surprise, this Christmas he launched this album, Christmas from The Heart. I was planning to buy this album when last week my brother sent me this CD. Oh wow! What a pleasant Christmas gift! This album contains 13 tracks:
1. Joy to the World
David begins this song with a hum, then the next thing I know, here comes his gentle voice. It starts off with regular tunes as in its original song would, but after some time David creates some modifications on the tunes. A good way to start this album.
2. Angels We Have Heard On High
This charming song is sung beautifully by David. This song raises a warming feeling inside me, especially when it comes to the chorus... Gloooo...ooo... oooo... ria.. :)
3. O Come All Ye Faithful
It is a right decision to put this hymn into David’s Christmas album. We can see how David explores through this song with his gentle voice. Great combination of David’s voice and the orchestra.
4. Silent Night
This classical song is a perfect piece. I could listen to it over and over because I’m so stunned with David’s clear voice in this song.
5. The First Noel
I’m glad that this song is here. It’s an old traditional Christmas song and when I listen to it, I would feel like attending a concert. Sounds of carols are here to beautify this song.
6. O Holy Night
It’s a full orchestral music in the background, and wow... again I am made stunned by David’s performance in this song.
7. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
A duet piece with Charice Pempengco. Here they made a beautiful, I mean very beautiful, blend together! A bit blues and jazzy but I adore this song.
8. I’ll be Home for Christmas
This song is full of jazz! And to my surprise, David nails it!
David sings in French! Wow.. The upbeat music with some percussion makes it a wonderful Christmas song... Don’t skip this one!
10. What Child is This
A rather ballad melody, yet creating mixed emotions within me... A simple song with less ornaments, and I like it.
11. Riu Riu Chiu
On reading the title, I thought David would sing in Chinese, but it turns out to be a Spanish song. I love the tunes and melodies in this song, though this is the first time I listen to Spanish Christmas song.
12. Ave Maria
It’s a different version from “Ave Maria” that I used to know. I think David sings in Latin this time. A Gregorian choir can be heard as the background voice. Not my favorite piece, actually.
13. Melodies of Christmas
David is doing okay for this song, but I don’t know, I don’t think it’s quite catchy for a Christmas song.
The 13-tracks in this album is overall, superb! That’s all I can say. David truly gives Christmas his heart... fully to this album! I can feel his seriousness and deep emotions flow from his heart. Well, surely this CD is a must buy... :)
