Whenever I see an offer for a free subscription to a magazine that has any beauty or fashion articles in it, I jump on it. That was my exact motive when I saw Latina on the list. I am not of Hispanic descent, but I find this magazine to be informative and entertaining all the same. The magazine is geared toward Latinas specifically.
The magazine is mostly in English. Spanish words are sprinkled throughout the mag interspersed with the English. For instance, I saw belleza used in place of "beauty", "chica" for girl, etc., in their articles. Some ads are fully in Spanish, but I don't mind. I don't always need to read an ad. Oftentimes, I just like to look at the pictures. Even for someone not fluent in Spanish, I can still read much of the magazine with ease. I know many conversational words, so when they throw a few Spanish words into an article written in English, it's no problem. Usually, I can figure out what the word is because of how it makes sense in the sentence it's in.
I really like how Latina features Latin artists, models and entertainers in the pages of their magazine and on the cover. It really feels like the mag celebrates the Latin culture. Inside, they talk about many topics. One spread I read was about Latin musicians that are underground/not well known. The article was titled "The Best Latin Music You Don't Know." They talk about politics, books to read, recipes, social issues (I read a very interesting article called "Racism Among Us") and more. Not to forget, they also have features on my favorites, fashion and beauty. Each issue costs $2.95 at the newstand and comes out monthly.
