Rich Mullins died before his time, with much of the music still in him. But I'm sure he's praising God, and singing with the angels. He was one of the most talented songwriters ever. Perhaps he is best remembered for his Christian song "Awesome God." Nominated for 12 Dove awards, he was an incredible talent, with a very memorable and distinct voice.
But his biggest ministry was to Native Americans in the Southwest. He taught children music on the Navajo Nation reservation, in Arizona. Lacking funds, many of the reservation schools did not have music courses. Mullins wanted to bring the gift of music to the children.
Rich Mullins died tragically in a car accident (on the way to a concert) at the age of 41. His goal in life was not to be rich or famous, but to serve God and others. That he did remarkably well!
Some of my favorite songs on this CD are Hold Me Jesus, Sometimes By Step, and Calling Out Your Name. I love the entire CD, and I am grateful that God gave us the gift of Rich Mullins, even though his time here was much too short.
