My sister bought one of these 2 years ago. Our first surprise was that it didn't accept it's own synchronization driver. I am a computer scientist, and I can get along with electronics well, but we couldn't make it work properly for a year!
Since it didn't work with it's driver, (even though I had all the requirements installed) my sister started to copy-paste her songs to it. In about 3 months, the device stopped working and we had to take it to the service. They immediately took care of it, free of charge as guaranteed.. But, the problem is, they installed a newer version of the program, so the device only worked with the songs they installed for trial there. It still didn't accept it's device driver, it did not synchronize with Windows Media Player, and it also stopped working with copy-paste. We had to leave it like that for a year.
When my sister bought a new computer with Vista, I tried again without much hope. The driver still didn't work, but after many attemptsand downloads, I could synchronize it with Media Player. Now it works at an acceptable level. When it decides to open (and sometimes it just won't open for a few days) the sound quality is nice. It can also do sound recording very well. It is said to store and show images too, but we couldn't get it to accept a single photo. My sister bought it at an unreasonably expensive price, considering all the functions it had, without knowing she wouldn't be able to use them.
We read the instructions "before" using the device, it had no exposure to water, heat, etc. Not a scratch on it, but it still refuses to turn on from time to time. It is no user error, but the service denies there's anything wrong with it. Buying it would be a gamble even though it looks very nice, with the touchpad, the blue lights and huge screen.
