My mother gave me this 3 strand "illusion" necklace with matching dangle earrings set for Christmas. The colors are all earthtone shades and pretty much go with anything. I really like the sparkle of the glass beads. It has colors of deep red, amber and pale yellow. There are 6 different shapes of beads and each has a chain stop on the top and bottom of each bead - this keeps the beads in place and spaced out as they should be.
The chain is gold tone and has a chain extender on it, so if you have a small neck, you can make it shorter or if you prefer a choker look, you can choose to clip the chain shorter and allow the extender to hang down the back of your neck. The clasp is a lobster claw on one end and a small round clasp on the other, where the extender is. By the lobster claw, there is a little oval "Avon" tag and another tiny gold ball on the other side of the claw.
The earrings are an oval cut glass in deep red. Each gold tone fish hook has a tiny clear rubber ear stop so you don't need to worry about them falling out.
I rated the quality and materials at a 4, only because I know over time the gold tone will fade, but I plan to take care of it, so hopefully it will last many years.
My husband enjoys making jewelry for me, my friends and the girls in our youth group. I know he will soon be copying this style and using his Swarovski crystals, so I can't wait to see what that will be like.
I will enjoy wearing this set to church and when we go out with friends to dinner. Thanks mom!
Update On Mar 31, 2010: I love how this necklace lays on my neck. It doesn't tangle easily like other illusion necklaces have done. And the colors go with so many of my outfits.
