CAP makes excellent fitness products, and these hand held weights are no exception. Coated with neoprene, a synthetic rubber that was created in the 1930s, they are very easy to grip, and comfortable to hold. The neoprene coating also makes the barbells resistant to slipping out of your hand. (This can be one of the hazards when working out with weights, particularly if you sweat a lot, and dropping one on your foot is no fun!)
The dumbbells can be used alone, for a weight training program, or they can be used along with aerobic workouts, or fitness DVDs. They are available in a variety of weight sizes and colors, and are sold individually. The dumbbells provide resistance, in order to tone and sculpt the muscles of the arms. If you have progressed a little beyond your standard aerobic workout, the use of hand held weights can take you to a new fitness level. Believe me, when you add the barbells, it will not seem so easy anymore! (Be sure to put the weights down, if your arms become too fatigued.)
A word of caution--those with high blood pressure should check with your doctor before using hand held weights. About the only complaint I can think of, is the neoprene has an unpleasant smell that tends to stay on your hands. It reminds me a little of motor oil. But since you will, more than likely, be showering after a workout, this should not be a problem.
So if you want to add a little challenge to your present workout, try using 2 lb. barbells, and see what a difference they can make.
