If you have mgraines, relief is something you try to get right away. It's extremely painful and I know I usually will do anything I can to alleviate the pain as fast as possible, even if it's a $10 a pill cure. Even if those $10 pills have side effects, too! It's certainly not worth that to me now.
Imitrex started off ok for me-it's a lot like any other migraine drug where it knocks you out a bit and makes you feel like you're in a tunnel. It took away the pain the first time I used it, but the second and third it did not. It only gave me the side effects-certainly not a helpful thing when you already have a migraine. Imitrex DOES work for some people. If you're like me, where some drugs tend to lose effectiveness after the first time you take them, I suggest that when you get your prescription of Imitrex for the first time, have the pharmacy only give you 7 or so-that way you can try it out and see if it does work for you. If you are fortunate enough to have an insurance that covers Imitrex for a copay, certainly get the whole prescription, but if you pay out of pocket, it will be very expensive.
Symptoms of migraines include nausea, vomiting, intense headache usually on one side of the head, sensitivity to light and sound, and aura (hard to explain unless you've had it-sort of like a "bubble" around your head-it dulls your senses). If you have 2 or more of these syptoms, it is considered a migraine and you might want to try this out.
Imitrex DOES interact with some other medications. Ask your doctor before you take it-NEVER borrow a prescription medication from a friend-always check with the doc first!!
Plese see my review of Maxalt, too-that works a lot better for me than Imitrex does.
