Herbal Essences used to be "meh, mediocre" in my book. However, on a whim when out of shampoo and at CVS, I picked up what was on sale, and it happened to be the newer incarnation of the product, specializing in straight hair. I grabbed both the shampoo and conditioner, figuring I might as well use them in conjunction as recommended to see how effective they are.

They smell fine, I'm partial to natural smelling coconut products, but these fruity little buddies weren't too bad. They are remarkable effective, as well. After washing my hair, it was not quite SQUEAKY/STRIPPED clean, but it was very lathery and when rinsed, rinsed clean to the touch. It also didn't leave my hair tangly, which can occur with more natural products. The application of conditioner (don't even have to leave it on very long for it to be effective) resulted in slippery slidey Pantene-Pro-V feeling hair. It was extremely soft and had absolutely no tangles even after being towel dried prior to brushing.

When I did blow it dry, it stayed straight without needing a flat iron or additional products. I have habitually used this when I want my hair flat and straight, however I have to advise that if you want straightness AND volume, you may have to do more than dry-and-go, because this product is so effective at straightening, that it doesn't allow for much volume in addition.
