Normally when we cruise out of the Orlando area, we stay at a hotel in Port Canaveral. On our last trip though, we wanted to do some shopping at Downtown Disney and the Disney Outlet stores so we decided to stay close to that area instead. We found a great rate at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in Lake Buena Vista so we decided to give it a try.
The hotel is located about 1 mile from the Downtown Disney Marketplace. We stayed in this area before and like that it is away from the crowds, because it is down a side street, but still close to all the attractions. In addition to the marketplace, it is 1/2 a mile from the entrance of the Walt Disney resort area, 2 miles from Sea World and 8 miles from Universal Studios. There are several restaurants close by in the area as well as a 24 hour grocery store or it's only a short drive over to the International Drive area where you can pretty much find any type of food you could want.
We booked an executive king guest room through Travelocity. When we arrived and I was checking in, they told me that they had a suite available and they where going to upgrade us to it at no charge. The hotel and the grounds were clean and quiet. Our room was on the second floor and we were able to drive around to a side entrance to go in. The room was very nice with a kitchen area, a table and chairs set, a living room and a separate bedroom with 2 queen size beds. The beds had high thread count sheets, down comforters and were very comfortable. The bathroom was large and accessible from both the bedroom and the kitchen area. There were two TV's in the room, one in the living area and one in the bedroom, so my husband and I were not stuck watching cartoons all night with my son.
Room rates include a complimentary continental breakfast and a complimentary cocktail reception with snacks and beverages in the lobby each night. We had the breakfast and the food was nice for what you got and the area was well stocked and kept clean with plenty of seating. Other amenities include a hair dryer, free high-speed Internet access, blackout drapes, an iron and ironing board. There is a heated outdoor pool, a hot tub and basketball court and although we did not use them, our room had a view of them and they were nicely appointed and in great shape. The hotel provides free transportation to the Disney theme parks and if I remember correctly they have a shuttle service for a fee to take you to Universal and Islands of Adventure.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and the next time we are in the Orlando area, we are definitely going to check the rates and availability to possibly stay there again.
