This book is one part humor, one part travelogue. It tells the story of humor writer Bill Bryson and his friend's adventures as they attempt to make a through hike of the Appalachian Trail. Along the way, Bill adds in personal anecdotes, trail history and some notes about the areas of the East Coast that this mother of all hiking paths weaves through.
It's interesting if you're into hiking or the outdoors, but even then it can be cumbersome at times, since Bill tends to go off on pretty boring tangents and not return for a few pages at a time. If you can dig through the muck, there are some funny parts and interesting facts.
Overall, it is worth the read. Just make sure you have some time on your hands.
