You can tell the difference between South Lake Tahoe California-Nevada because the casinos sit against the Stateline border on the Nevada side, but on the California side is Heavenly Village. This beautiful resort villa is built in a European model of ski chalets. The resort has shops, dining areas, mini-golf, skating rink, pool, and gondolas.
The first time we walked through the area, a celebrity chef was on the walkway handing out coupons for his specials. He was tall, blonde, and tanned--very handsome. (Cecil's). Anyway, my husband and I sat down to watch the show as he charmed, shook hands, and directed people to his restaurant. It was better than watching politicians gladhanding.
My daughter and son-in-law took their oldest girl shopping. She had fun picking out geodes and other delightful rock formations that are found in the Lake Tahoe region. The next time we came down to Heavenly Village resort, daugher, son-in-law and the oldest girl took the gondola up the mountain. This is the only gondola in the Lake Tahoe region that is runs through the whole year. In the summer, folks can look down on Lake Tahoe.
Even though we had some terrible haze the first two days of their vacation, near the end Lake Tahoe lived up to its name of being the jewel of the Sierras. It was blue, blue, and really blue. The family said that it was great. The son-in-law had pictures to prove it. (No I dont... sorry)
Anyway, even though we didn't stay at the resort, they do have rooms for visitors. In the winter, it is one of the biggest resorts and ski run areas in Lake Tahoe.
It was great. It was fun. BTW our grandson wasn't ready to ride the gondola (at 5), he wanted to sit and watch so he sat on his grandpa's lap and watched the gondolas go up and down. He had fun too.
