Allow me to preface this review by admitting that Jules Verne is one of my favorite classic authors. Journey to the Center of the Earth is a fantastic story about a boy and his Uncle's quest to find the center of the Earth. Their expedition begins in Iceland where they find a brawny, Icelandic guide. Their quest begins as they enter the Earth via caves. Along the way they encounter many dangers, labyrinths of caves, and underwater seas teaming with incredible lifeforms many of which appear prehistoric and many others belonging to species that are extinct on the surface. Verne's apparent general knowledge of the sciences of his times has always amazed me. His knowledge of the geological and natural sciences is obvious when reading Journey to the Center of the Earth. This is a classic. If you didn't read it as a child, check it out!
