A Thousand Splendid Suns is a story about the plight of women in Afghanistan throughout the past few decades and how these women have endured. It is a remarkable story, although it didn't capture me as fully as Hosseini 's first novel the Kite Runner.
It is still a quick read, which is aided by the shorter chapters and the fact that the narrative is written from two different women's points of view, before they finally merge at the end of the story. These women are from two different generations and backgrounds and provide unique perspectives on the events in their lives, which are formed overwhelmingly due to the violence going on all around them.
This is an important book that should be shared. It definitely gives a more human perspective of what is going on in the Middle East. All over the world, people are people who basically want the same things.
