I am very into planning for my vacations. I want to make sure that I get the most for my money while still seeing and experiencing the area fully. So, after planning my wedding I began to plan for my honeymoon to Kauai.
I love the outdoors and what better way to experience nature locally than kayaking, right? So I did quite a bit of web research and found Kayak Adventures. The price was reasonable and the pictures and description of the trip sounded too good to pass up. So when we arrived, it is with this company I booked a kayak trip on the Waterfall Adventure (Wailua River)!
The trip started a bit early for us (8 or 9 am if I recall). And, no I am not completely lazy but we are from the east coast so there was quite a bit of a time difference for us! However, it was well worth getting up that early :0)
The kayaks we used were the ride on top kind and not as comfortable as mine but it was still loads of fun. We paddled along the river and our guide pointed out various movie sets as we passed them. He also told us some of the history of the plants and animals of Kauai. Then we pulled our kayaks up and began a short trek into the rain forest. Along the way we all picked a certain kind of flower and he explained it was better than any conditioner you could find in a store. Then he showed us how to squeeze the juice and put it on our hair, which of course we all did!
After a while, we arrived at the waterfall, hungry, hot and tired. We all jumped right in! It was wonderful. The waterfall was beautiful. Pictures really do not do this place justice although I did include a few. There was even a rope hanging from a tree for the MORE adventurous to jump about 20 feet off a cliff (I had to draw the line somewhere…and I just did not see the need to jump from a cliff :0). My husband and all the other males did though! Interestingly enough, he lost his wedding ring during that jump! I’m sure you can picture the 10 or so of us scouring the bottom of the pond looking for a simple band of gold! Lucky for him we found it though:0) Anyway, after some pictures and a light lunch provided by our guide, we hiked back out and kayaked back to our original destination.
The trip took a good part of the day. But, if you enjoy nature, kayaking, waterfalls, and local stories, you will not be disappointed!
