I bought this in the summer of 1990 brand new from ham radio outlet in n.h. This radio is very nice to listen to. Excellent tone quality. Has been very reliable and only went in for repairs once about 2 years ago. It had a leaky capacitor fixed, lithium battery for memory replaced and also had it set up for the new 60 meter ham radio band. Available on the market used as new ones no longer in production by kenwood. Many resources available online to keep the radio in working order. I have consistently used the radio for about 17 years now. Very nice to tune in a shortwave radio station and listen to perhaps radio Moscow or other broadcast station somewhere in the world. Ham radio use for talking to various stations thru out the world is quite good. Able to reduce and or eliminate unwanted signals via slope tuning feature a big plus. A very nice selection for a new ham or anyone who enjoys shortwave listening. Many hams still seek out this radio on the used market as it has a very big following because of the overall quality and the transmitted audio. As I alluded to earlier I think the received audio is way above normal. I am a big icom fan but this kenwood model is my favorite in their line.
