So I was browsing the DVD's when I came across this vid: Fat-Burning Kickboxing Workout for Dummies. "Kickboxing, eh? I thought to my (very Canadian) self. "I've always thought it would be fun to learn Kickboxing... I could use something new to mix up my walking and pilates routine...." Into the cart it went.

The Good: This movie is a great introduction to Kickboxing, and does cater to someone who is not familiar with the form. In addition to the workout, it has a tutorial section where it goes through the 10 basic kickboxing moves to help you get the feel of things and master the moves so that your workout will be more effective.

This workout REALLY makes you sweat! It is fast-paced and challenging... and you WILL "feel the burn"!

I wasn't disappointed. Kickboxing is as fun as I thought it would be.

The Bad: In this case, one of the biggest pros is also one of the biggest cons... this movie is very fast-paced. For a beginner, it is difficult to keep up. I kind of wish that they had a couple different routines going at varied speeds so I could work my way up.

The Ugly: This movie is NOT for weak of heart, or for the out of shape! If you are looking for something easy to get you off the couch for the first time in awhile, then this is not the video for you. It's more likely to discourage one from working out, because it is so intensive.

All things considered, I gave the effectiveness of this DVD a 3. It is a great cardio workout, and for someone who loves fitness and being active, it will probably be a great addition. However, the speed and intensity is more of a hinderance for anyone who is really new to working out. Unless you're able to physically keep up and truly master the routine, I don't think you will really gain the full effects that this type of workout can offer. As for myself, it was a fun ride, but I think pilates and a brisk walk in the mornings is much more my speed.
