My son attended Summer Camp for the first time this year. Where we live there are very few kids that are home during the Summer for him to play with. We did not want him sitting around all Summer with nothing to do but we also did not want to tie him up with going to camp every day either. When I got a flyer in the mail for the Out Of This World Summer Camp that was being held at The Kid Connection, I was really excited to read that their camp was available all Summer or you could choose your weeks to attend as long as you attended at least 3.
The cost of the camp was $125.00 per week. That price included lunch, a snack and all field trips. They did an average of three trips per week with some of the trips actually coming to the center rather than them going to the activity. The hours for the camp ran daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. They also offered before and after care for an additional fee. Some of the field trips that they went on were to places like the Wild Animal Safari, some were to historic sites and some days they just went to a local pool and swam the day away. While they were in the center, most of the activities took place in a huge gym that was called the barn (in my pictures it is the building with the red roof). The center of the barn is a large wooden gym floor with basketball hoops on either end. Off to the sides are separate rooms all with sliding doors that are used for different activities like arts and crafts, computer time, and a locker and changing area.
This center has only been open for a year and it is beautiful. The smaller children go to one side of the center and the bigger kids to the other. It is very clean, well appointed and quiet. There is a big beautiful lobby with an information desk when you walk in the front doors and two doors that lead into the center itself. There is a key pad on the wall that you need to enter your code into in order to gain access to the areas where the children are and that is also used to check the children in and out of the center. The staff was very friendly and personable. The young guy who was in charge of my son's group was a big kid at heart and all the children seemed to really like him.
I never did figure out why it was called the Out Of This World Summer Camp because it did not have any kind of space theme to it but overall I was impressed with the camp and the activities that were offered. My son attended the camp for 3 weeks and those were spaced out over the Summer. I think he had a little bit of a hard time bonding with some of the kids because of it. There were also a few misbehaved children in there that took away a little from his fun because they were kind of bullies but he was happy to be out of the house and doing something this Summer. Had it not been for the few bad apples, it would have been perfect. We would consider enrolling him in this program again next year.
