Both of my sons (ages 6 and 8) recently received the Nintendo DS Lite for their birthdays. At first, the $129 price tag kept me from making the purchase but after much consideration I got my older son one. He was thrilled and hasn't put it down. There are a wide variety of games available for kids (and adults) of all ages and for both boys and girls. My favorite things about this system is that it is backwards compatible and they are still able to play all of their Game Boy Advance games on the Nintendo DS. It is the worst when your child outgrows their game system and you have to start from scratch with all of the games so I was pleasantly surprised by this. Not long after my older son received this, my younger son started campaigning for one of his own. My children are very tough on their toys and the durability of this system is excellent. I did buy the extended warranty available for it but I suspect I won't be needing it. Overall this is a great gaming system, one mom and dad might even find themselves trying after the kids are in bed!
