My husband, brother-in-law and sister-in-law surprised me with a Kindle 2 for my birthday, and I love it. I had been saving up money for it and had decided to hold off in getting it, and my husband took care of it for me.
So when hubby started to show an interest in the Kindle DX with its larger screen, I thought what a great Christmas gift this would be for him. With the help of a few of my relatives, we decided to give it to him as an early Christmas present.
I must admit that I like the larger size screen on the Kindle DX more than the size of the Kindle 2 (but I'm perfectly happy with mine). My husband loves it because his eyes can get strained very easily, and with the Kindle DX, he can make the font larger, and it works great for him. The Kindle DX has the ability to read your books to you, and my husband will very often plug in headphones and listen to a book rather than read it himself. He likes to browse through the Kindle store and look up different books he is interested in. The Kindle DX also allows you to download a free sample of a book so that you can see if it is what you want before you purchase it. Magazines, newspapers, blogs, are all available with the Kindle.
All of the Kindles have the above features, but what makes the Kindle DX so great is its larger screen size. Plus, the Kindle 2 can hold up to 1500 books, I believe the Kindle DX can hold up to 3500. It has buttons for previous page, next page, home and menu, plus a toggle button that allows you to make different selections in menus. An on/off switch is located at the top, and at the bottom is a port for you to plug in a USB cable so that you can download books through your computer.
This is a great reader, and I'm so glad I was able to get this for my husband. He loves it, as I do my Kindle 2.
