Cheap batteries that I have purchased in the past have always fallen short in terms of quality. After all, four batteries for a dollar is not a bargain if the batteries die within a week. I purchased these Kirkland brand batteries after reading a positive review for them in consumers report. With 2 kids and countless toys that take batteries, I was really drawn to these batteries as they are only $9.99 for a pack of 48! Thats a steal compared to the name brands. We have been using only kirkland brand batteries for about 3 years now and I have been very impressed with their performance. I find that even in high tech devices like my camera they last a really long time (keep in mind my camera is old and I don't tend to use the LCD screen, I usually use the viewfinder.) I put 4 in my son's leapster at the begining of November and they are still going stong 4 months later!

While I don't like that they are not as environmentally friendly as my rechargeable batteries, I love that they last and last and are inexpensive to buy. I have recommended these batteries to many of my friends who have yound kids with tons of toys!

Kirkland also makes AAA batteries as well.

Update On Dec 07, 2010: We recently purchased a new camera which requires 2 AA batteries. I have used my trusty Kirkland batteries with impressive results. The batteries have lasted a long time even with using the LCD screen (there is no viewfinder) They actually last longer than our rechargeables, which admittedly need replacing.
