My husband is very cold natured. I'll be wearing a t-shirt and he'll have a t-shirt, shirt and sweater and still be cold.

Since he wears a company issued coat to work, I hadn't given much thought to his weekend coat. He's been wearing the same bulky parka for many years and I decided it was time to update with the hope that newer materials might keep him warmer.

Land's End is one of my favorite companies. I'm never disappointed with their merchandise, so I checked their website. They offered several options as far as style and level of warmth desired. I already had an idea of what I was looking for and their website gave me all the information I needed to make an informed purchase.

When the coat was delivered, I first thought it had to be the wrong one because it was so lightweight. A coat this light couldn't really be warm, could it? This one is about 50% less bulky than his old one, so I was quite skeptical. The look on my husband's face when he first held it was much the same as mine. It seemed way too light to possibly be warm.

The first time he wore it, it was bitter cold with biting wind. My husband went outside to clean the ice from his truck and I knew we'd find out soon if this coat was as good as advertised. To my surprise, he said that he didn't feel the wind coming through the coat, something he always felt with the older coat.

The Insulated Squall Parka has warm, wind-resistant, ThermaCheck fleece lining. It is advertised as being twice as warm and four times as wind resistant as regular fleece. It also has 200-gram Thermolite insulation, a snap-off hood and adjustable cuffs to make it even warmer. A drawstring at the waist and hem help to give it a better fit and keep the wamth inside.

The temperature rating for this particular coat is -25° to 0° Fahrenheit. That's the warmest that Land's End offered and is appropriate for winters here where the wind chill often goes well below zero. Without unnecessary bulk, the coat is lightweight, comfortable and easy to move in, a vast improvement over the last coat.

The outside has large pockets, while the inside lining has easy access pockets for cell phones or other items. My husband is comfy and warm, which is what Land's End advertised. It seems that they thought of everything with this parka and once again, the Land's End merchandise delivered as promised.
