I looked for months to find the 'right' laptop for me. My wish list included a laptop that even as technology marches on, I will be happy with for several years. I think I found it in this Toshiba Satellite notebook from Office Depot. Prompted by an ad for a $200 rebate and a free printer I visited the local Office Depot store, too bad I didn't mail the rebate in on time.:(
This Toshiba has a Windows XP Media Center operating system and is Windows Vista capable, which gives me the best of both worlds. I can always go Vista when all the kinks are out. I frequently use my laptop on the road and the battery life of 3hrs 27min they advertised is what you can expect. It comes with the standard one year warranty.
One extra feature I really like is the Toshiba Express Media Player. It means you can play your DVD and CDs just by pressing the quick access buttons, which are separate control buttons on your laptop, right next to the keyboard. It gives you the Internet, DVD/CD button and right below the play-pause-stop and previous and next track button. So simple and easy to access:)
Memory is 1024MB DDR2 and it can be expanded to 2048MB max and the all important hard drive has 100GB. That is plenty of memory and hard drive for my home office needs. The dual core processor means it will run faster and will not slow me down even if I have several windows open at the same time. I always do:)
I love the built-in Harmon Kardon speakers for their crisp sound and the surround sound is a nice bonus, if you like to listen to music or watch a movie. The day I found it had a XPmedia slot for my digital camera card right smack in the front, I was ecstatic, since my old desktop doesn't even have a card reader and I have to hook up a cable for uploading photos. Actually, when I played my first DVD I realized this Toshiba DVD Super Multi supports 11 different formats of CDs and DVDs and of course you can burn a CD. The software is already on the laptop and is easy as pie to follow.
One more reason why I chose this Toshiba was the true-brite LCD 15.4" screen, the picture quality is excellent. To me that is an important feature. I want a screen that is easy on the eyes and displays brilliant picture quality for viewing photos or just playing on the Internet. I admit, this laptop has more ports and card slots then I currently need, but that's OK, a girl needs her toys:) I bought this laptop for the long run and I am having fun discovering all the cool things it can do. I have had my Toshiba laptop for about a year and all I can say is, "WOW, I am so glad I bought this".
