The Leap Frog Leapster Learning System was the first handheld game we purchased for our son. He was around 3 when we got it for him. We thought it might be too difficult for him at that age, but we worked on it with him and he learned to operate it very quickly. We bought games that were appropriate for his age, and he learned so fast with this system that it amazed us. We were happy to spend the money on more games for him as he progressed. It has held up extremely well, considering our son takes it a lot of places with him. I strongly suggest getting the rechargeable battery pack and charger, it will save you a lot of frustration with dead batteries. The other accessory that has been invaluable was the carrying case. The case is very lightweight, yet safely protects the game system. It also has a mesh pocket inside to store about 6 games. There is a great variety of games out for both boys and girls. There should be enough variety to keep your child interested for many years.
