Leather, A Better Choice

I was using an older heavy duty leather dog collar for my dog and it had to be replaced. I was dreading this day as the collars generally sold today are not made well enough for a large dog, in my opinion.

While a tiny to small puppy or dog, may do well enough with a fabric and Velcro or fabric and plastic collar, I feel that it is irresponsible to expect those types of collars to hold up in unexpected extreme situations with larger dogs. What happens if an unleashed dog charges at your dog, who you try to pull away from the situation by the collar and the collar breaks?

In a moment like that, who is at fault or not at fault makes no difference. The problem is that you no longer have anything to grab onto to get your dog out of there.

While the collar I chose is not as thick as I would prefer, it seems to be made very well. It is a rolled leather collar with nylon stitching and solid brass buckle. The leather being rolled at the neck seems to make the collar a more comfortable fit and seems more durable, as well.

There doesn’t seem to be any weak or stress points on the collar. The stitching is well done and does not leave any cracked or stressed areas. The buckle is solid and not wiggly at all, as is the leash ring.

I am happy with my purchase and feel that this collar was a good choice for my dog.
