On a trip to New Hampshire, where I was born, I bought a lot of things to remind me of my trip and where I come from. One of these items was a New Hampshire license plate from my birth year. I thought it would be a cool souvenir to have.
When my sister saw it, she had a fit. She wanted one for her birth year. So, with her 50th birthday on the horizon, I set about to find her a license plate. It was actually hard to find, but I eventually found one and she was thrilled. It looked like it had been through a war, but she didn't care.
Last week, my brother turned 50. This time, I planned ahead and found one on ebay a few weeks in advance. It is old and rusty, just as he is getting, or so I told him. He had not seen or heard about mine or my sister's plates, so this was a surprise to him and he loved it. One thing was for certain.... he didn't already have one like it.
The plate is a real New Hampshire license plate. I bought it on ebay from someone whose father had saved it all these years.
We all loved this idea as a 50th birthday gift. It could be any birthday, but it just happened that way for us. We are all very sentimental and feel strong ties to New Hampshire even though we moved away when we were young. The plates all are on display in our homes where we can see them and be reminded of where we came from.
