I just bought this Linksys Router today after work. My old router, a Belkin, decided enough was enough. It was a loyal friend for over 6 years and its time had come to an end. I looked here at Shared for reviews on routers and I asked my friend Froggy for advice. She was the reason I bought this brand.

Walmart had the best price. I picked it up on the way home from work. I must be honest about the set up. It took me three tries to actually get it to recognize my router. On the third try, I was just about to call tech support. They also have "An Expert in a Box" which is the Linksys EasyLink Advisor. You can use this if you have XP or Vista. It's not available for you if your system is Windows 2000. I guess it heard me and decided to play nice!

The set up was easy. First you need to run the cd. Next instructions are given on how and when to connect the electrical plug and the ethernet cables. If you try and hook things up in the wrong order...you won't be successful in setting up the router. It then goes through the process of setting up the network for your wireless connection. After I had that all set on my computer, I turned on my laptop. It said that if you have an extra ethernet cable that it would be the easiest way to set it up. So I connected the cable to my laptop and within minutes it was working!!! Then I disconnected the cable to the laptop and the set up was complete.

When I first had problems setting it up, I returned to the product description and requirements for running this router. I thought maybe I had bought the wrong product for my operating system. (I really should read the box before I buy things!)

Minimum Requirements

IE 6.0 or Firefox 1.0

CD-ROM Drive

Windows 2000, XP or Vista (mine is XP)

Network adapter or wireless network adapter

The Features

4 Port Switch

54Mbps Wireless-G (802.11g) access point

Shares an internet connection with Ethernet wired and Wireless-G and -B devices

High Security, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2)

Wireless MAC address filtering

A Powerful SPI firewall

The dimensions of my router are 7.31" x 1.88" x 6.16", so it fits perfectly on my desk shelf. I really like the blue color (see pic), my old router was just plain grey.

This is a great and inexpensive way to share a high speed internet connection with the whole family, or in my case, with my hubby!
