Usually all workout videos are typically the same, some may have different moves thrown in there or the move done differently to make it seem unique, but it's really not.
Personally, I had never heard of the insanity workout program, I love to workout and rotate exercises often to keep up the challenge. Even though I try to keep up a 3-5 day workout routine, I am not super fit. I am your average joe who falls off the band wagon with my eating habits and ends up indulging in month-long food binges. This is a problem because all that work I spent over the year to get in the best shape of my life, is cancelled out in a few weeks.
So now I am back on the health train, rearin' to go, but I had no motivation to use the workout videos I own because I am so sick of the same routine! I was also dreading the amount of time it's going to take to get back into shape using cardio and weight machines. That's when a friend of mine gave me their copy of BeachBody's workout program called Insanity.
Let me be the first to tell you, IT'S INSANE! I love it. The package comes with well over 10 DVD's, each disc is about 40 minutes long and each routine burns about 1000 calories if you give it your best.
I had been looking for the quick fix to get back into shape and, by gosh, it literally fell in my lap. Most say this program is not for someone just starting out, I say go at your own pace and give it a chance. Insanity will get you into the best shape of your life.
The main element of the program is it focuses on interval training and cardio, mostly everything has cardio in it. You don't need any mats, dumb bells, ropes, etc. Just a sweat towel, a litre of water, a good pair of shoes and the drive to dive right in there. Insanity uses your own body as the weight you will be lifting so while you strengthen and tone you will gain muscle mass as well.
It's designed as a six-week program so you never get bored with it and honestly there isn't a better workout out there. Shaun T is a great motivator and the vibe of the team is helpful as well. In some of the videos even the pros are dropping like flies so you don't feel so bad! As far as the moves go, here's a small breakdown of what you can expect:
- Plyometrics designed to enhance fast and powerful movements (people over 240lbs are cautioned to lower their personal intensity)
- Running, Jogging, Butt-kicks, High Knee's
- Various forms of push-us combined with power jumping and cardio
- Sport oriented warm-ups e.g. football and basketball drills, skiing etc.
The list goes on and on!
If you're a newbie to the game don't fret, the workouts are entirely possible and you'll improve as you go along. Most of the routines are done as three-minute bursts, thirty-second rests and then the routine starts all over again, coupled with a break in between for some of the best stretching in your life! The idea behind doing the exercises three time's is each time you are expected to speed up, jump higher and dig deeper. I sweat for a good hour after an exercise with Beachbody's Insanity program.
I am telling you, If you want to lose weight and tone up fast Insanity is definitely the only workout you'll ever need!
