I have always loved going anywhere that involved animals so naturally a trip to the zoo is like a perfect mini get away for me and my family. Recently we chose to take a trip to the Louisville Zoo in Louisville, Kentucky. I had been several times to other zoos but never to this one and since it was only 2 hours from home it was a spur of the moment trip idea. Boy, do I ever wish I had planned it ahead of time because I probably wouldn't have even went.
The ticket price was reasonable for an attraction such as this and the pricing on gift shop items and food was as well. No one expects these places to be dirt cheap anyway of course.
My big disappointment came as we started to trek around the park to look at the animal attractions. This is where Louisville Zoo is lacking. There just isn't much to look at. In 2 hours flat we had looked at every single attraction right down to the bug exhibits and we had even played in their miniture waterpark. It seemed as if every attraction we headed to once we got there we found a sign saying the animals had been relocated to another zoo for this reason or that reason.
Now I understand all zoos will move things around and work to make themselves better, but if the need to move that many animals at once was truley needed I think they should have considered maybe closing the park until they could get things in order. I mean I paid $13 for my ticket alone and got to see a few elephants, a hippo, some lemurs and a bunch of reptiles. Not my idea of a great trip to the zoo. No lions, no polar bears, no seals.....My list could go on as these were all the relocated animals I read the notices about.
In the end I don't think I will make a trip back to the zoo in Louisville. Next time I'll opt to drive further to one I know will deliver on the attractions they boast about.
