I have an allergy to most perfumes and colognes. In fact when I was helping a woman with her order, I began to sneeze and hives rose around my mouth and nose. As soon as I went a little distance from her, I was able to breath. Appropriately, the name of the cologne she was wearing was "Poison."

I have been able to wear lavendar and some rose, but the perfumes need to be mixed for me until I was introduced to "Shalimar."

Shalimar was first introduced into the world in 1925 by Jacques Guerlin. It was made to commemorate a legendary love story that centers around the Taj Mahal. You can read about it here at

It was 1989 and my now husband and I were in a mall in Sarasota, Florida. He was courting me at the time although I didn't know it. I was a very naive 28 year old woman. Anyway, he took my hand and led me over to the perfume counter.

"Do you have Shalimar?" he asked.

She produced the bottle and sprayed a tiny amount on my wrist. For two hours he never let my arm down, but would take a sniff. And then he would smile. Of course, I blushed. And yes, this is the best perfume for me (an oriental floral fragrance). So whenever I use this perfume, I think of love.
