I have been wanting to follow a lower carb diet without going to the extremes of some of the popular low carb diets that are out there. I love carbs and I definitely still want to enjoy them I just wanted to be able to eat more of the healthy ones. Low carb diets are very affective and when you stick to them you will drop the weight but more important than that for me was just being healthier. A big complaint about low carb diets is lack of variety, people tend to eat the same things over and over again, get bored and then binge on the "forbidden" foods. I came across this excellent cookbook by Better Homes and Gardens. This particular one is for "Phase 1" as it is known in the popular low carb diets where you typically consume 20 carbs or less per day. All of the recipes in this book are less than 5 grams of net carbs per serving and most are a lot less. I have tried several of the recipes and so far it's a hit! The Italian Pork Burgers are my favorite so far. The only real complaint I have about the book is that many of the meat recipes are repetitive. The book is over 400 pages long and I think it could have been shorter if they had taken for instance the many, many different pork loin recipes and gave a basic recipe with a couple of pages worth of variations as opposed to page upon seperate page of the different ways you can make it. Other than that though it is a great cookbook. I love to eat, I love to cook and I LOVE cookbooks and this one is a big hit with me and my family.
