MacBook Pro 13'

I am reviewing an entry-level MacBook Pro that I purchased from Micro Center for $1199. The laptop has a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a 250GB hard drive, and a 13-inch screen. Apple's Mac Book Pro's are one of the priciest laptops on the market. The laptops are very expensive and some of the higher end models are just ridiculously expensive. However, you are paying for a premium product. Apple takes pride in their products and how well made they are.

I previously owned 2 Dell laptops but both crashed after about a year and a half. I have now had my MacBook Pro for about the same time and I am very pleased with its performance. This laptop is great for students! It is small, light weight and durable because of its uni-body design. I love the look of this laptop. The smooth silver metal and the black lining around the screen make the laptop look incredible. It's made of a solid block of aluminium and can easily placed in a backpack without breaking. The laptop comes with a variety of good software, like garage band, that any student would love to play around with.

The back-lit keyboard makes it easy to type in low light or dark situations. All of the ports are on the left side of the chassis and include an Ethernet jack, a FireWire 800 port, a mini-Display Port connector, two USB 2.0 ports, an SD-card slot, and a headphone jack. I was a little disappointed with some of the ports on the 13' model. The laptop only comes with 2 usb ports and only 1 audio in/out port (head phone port). There is also a battery life indicator on the left side so you can check your battery life. On the right side, there is a Cd/Dvd Drive with a disk burner but it does not support blue-ray. The track pad on this laptop is absolutely huge. It is touch responsive and there is a large variety of gestures you can use to easily navigate on the screen. I recommend getting it with the glossy display over the matted display to get the beautiful glossy appearance. Although, the glossy screen tends to collect dust. The screen's resolution is 1, 280x800 and cannot be upgraded in the 13' model. The lap top comes with an isight camera on the top of the screen. You can use the webcam with iphoto, photobooth, imovie or preview(all programs included with the laptop). The laptop comes with a new power cord. This cord is amazing! It is magnetic so if someone trips over it, there is no damage done to the laptop or cord. It simply comes out cleanly leaving everything undamaged. The battery in the laptop is able to last for an amazing 1000 charges. Apple will even replace the battery once it has worn out. I average about 7 hours of battery life on this computer as compared to the 2 hours I got on my Dell computers. I was also disappointed that Apple did not use the Intel core I3 processor. you still get an Intel Core 2 Duo which works just fine. The operating system on this laptop is Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which takes some getting used to if you are switching from a PC. I found that the Mac operating system is much smoother and laid out better than Windows 7. This laptop can also handle a variety of games for the average gamer. I tested games like Call of Duty and Age of Empires which worked very well. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to buy it. It is worth the extra price.
