At the time of its release, this disc was a comeback of sorts for Madonna. This disc brought her back to the top of the charts and had people talking about her work instead of just her personal life.
There are lots of strong songs here, and they hold up well when listened to many years afters its release. Ray of Light is probably the most popular of all of the tracks and a definite highlight. It is a really fun song. The moody songs Frozen and The Power of Good-bye feature great vocal performances. This is the disc she made after the voice training she undertook for her role in Evita, and the improvement in her vocal performance is quite noticeable.
Some of the best tracks are the ones that weren't released as singles. Skin is a fun and light dance song, while Candy Perfume Girl is a very different sounding song with a heavy beat.
It's not all perfect here. Little Star is a little too sappy for my taste, and Shanti is just plain bad.
This is an important CD in Madonna's career and absolutely worth listening to for the great tracks that weren't released as singles.
