Best Appliances Microwave 16 Turntable

My husband and I purchased this microwave about a month ago at Menard's after ours finally went out.

This Magic Chef microwave features 10 power levels, six pre-programmed One-Touch Cooking Menus for popcorn, beverages, dinner plates, frozen pizza, and fresh or frozen vegetables. There are three auto-defrost levels for meat, poultry or fish. There is also a 99-minute kitchen timer and a child safety lock. There is also an auto-start function (press start and it heats for 30 seconds, press start again and it heats for 60 seconds, etc.) The dimensions are 23.2"W x 18.3"D x 13.3"H.

At first we loved this product... until we found out that the turntable is almost more of a pain than it's worth! If you put something heavy on it, the turntable slides off the guides. When you go to fix the turntable, the marks on the guide do not line up right with the marks on the bottom of the glass turntable. If you attempt to use it that way anyway, it doesn't rotate and your food will burn. So that is definitely a huge con. We would not have purchased this model if we had checked it out better in the store. The turntable problem also creates an issue after you're done cleaning it. It's not easy to get it back on right!

But there are some pros. It is a very powerful microwave at 1000 watts, so it will heat your food perfectly. Also the preset buttons are a plus, so you don't have to guess at how long to heat something. We use the auto-start function (press start once for 30 seconds of heating) for heating coffee.

I would not recommend this Magic Chef microwave to anyone though, as I believe the cons outweigh the pros.

Update On May 09, 2011: *Update*

It's not even five months later, and this microwave had to be returned today!

Yesterday, we were microwaving a side dish and we noticed a smell coming from it. We stopped it and took out the food to be sure we weren't smelling it burn. Nope, what we smelled was actually the microwave itself! It was that funny smell that means that your appliance is about to burn out.

I will be writing to the company and letting them know that this model is a fire hazzard. As I mentioned before in this review, I would absolutely NOT recommend buying a Magic Chef Microwave! In fact, I think we will be staying away from that brand altogether.
