I have been going to Martha's Vineyard for vacations since I was a little girl. It's a beautiful Island with something for everyone: great food, beautiful beaches, a carousel, gorgeous views. One big plus of Martha's Vineyard as a vacation destination, rather than Cape Cod, is that it is very easy for those who do not have a car to get there and get around. You can take a Peter Pan bus from South Station in Boston to the ferry port. Once you land on the Island of Martha's Vineyard, you can take Vineyard Transport to any of the towns you want to go to: Oak Bluffs with the beach and the Carousel, Vineyard Haven with the Black Dog Restaurant of the ubiquitous T-shirts, and Edgartown of South Beach and great shopping. I think that the ease of transportation with Marth's Vineyard makes it a great travel option. Other pluses of Martha's Vineyard includes great theatre (I saw a great production of The Children's Hour there in 2006, and in 2007 they were featuring an evening with Jill Hennessy), and there is also excellent food to be had: from gourmet meals to fried clams from a shack the size of a phonebooth.
