I saw this movie at a theatre in Singapore. Hubby and I had been looking forward to it. I've seen hubby and my brother play the game before, though I don't know the full details of the story. Hubby says that there are some differences from the game, but the gist is still the same. I LOVE the atmosphere of the movie, kinda dark and it just fits with the whole story. The special effects and the "CGI creatures" are also very impressive.

Plot: Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg) had a tragic history. His wife and baby were brutally killed by some people. He managed to kill some of the bad guys, but the real killer fled the scene. Now he works in the cold case department in the police force since he's obsessed in trying to find this killer.

The situation gets complicated as Max is suspected as the killer of a woman whom he was with before she was killed. This woman's sister, Mona (Mila Kunis), wants to revenge her death, but Max manages to explain to her that the real killer isn't him. Thus they gather forces to find the killer.

Through some twists and turns, turns out that the woman's killer has taken some kind of experimental drug that makes him invincible. This experimental drug has made many people "see demons" and die. This drug has also caused Max's wife to die. Why? You've gotta see the movie yourself to find out!

Does Max manage to find out who his wife's killer is? Of course. But you would never guess who that killer is. I was SURPRISED when I found out who the killer was and that's another beauty of this movie. I LOVE unexpected twists! Whether or not you know the game, Max Payne is still worth watching! The plot is thick with action, the setting is also appropriate. I think Mark Wahlberg has done a GREAT job in his role as Max Payne!
