Have you ever walk into a store and seen something so special and unique that you just had to have it? That is exactly what happened to me when I found the Mermaid Weathervane at of all places a Christmas store.
While on vacation in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee we were doing some and one of our stops was at a store called the Christmas Place which they claim is the South's largest Christmas store. I expected to find all kinds of Christmas decor there but a Mermaid never crossed my mind. When I saw her though, she was so different and beautiful that I immediately said that I wanted her.
This is a large and heavy piece. From the bottom of her base to the top of her star she measures in at 26 inches tall. When you measure across from her star to the tip of her tail, that comes in at 24 inches. The piece is made of what feels like a resin but it has been carved and sculpted to look like age wood. The wind directional part is made of metal and has the same type of finish to it. The base is heavy and is well weighted to support the mermaid which extends in both directions on the top. The base has a flat bottom so it sits evenly on a table or shelf. There is a metal pole that runs up the center of the piece and hold the mermaid up in the air. The piece comes in a large well padded box in three separate parts. Assembly of it takes less than 1 minute.
I keep my mermaid in our living room but this piece would look great in a bedroom, a bathroom or a sunroom. The piece is made to look like a weathervane but it is made for indoor displays only. While the metal directional part does turn, I am not sure it would actually spin in the wind. I have really enjoyed owning this piece. She brings me joy and happiness and looks especially beautiful in the afternoon when the sun is shining in and lighting up her face.
