Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

About twenty years ago the gaming world witnessed the rise of a hero who fought all alone against numerous impossible odds and saved the world again and again. That hero later grew into a legend and changed the entire gaming landscape by redefining stealth action games through his epic battles. This edition of Metal Gear Solid franchise witnesses the honorable discharge of Solid Snake. But even though this is going to be Snake’s final mission, he’s certainly not going out quietly. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has become a technical as well as cinematic and a gaming standard by which all the future action and stealth titles are to be judged. It’s now certain that Kojima Productions, Konami and Hideo Kojima have created a true classic and a masterpiece.

This game is set in the future where conflicts are no longer isolated events. No more sporadic occurrence of violence around the globe. It’s now everywhere and the whole planet is engulfed in constant battle. War and fighting is now a self-sustaining industry which has replaced the global economy. PMCs or Private Military Corporations have utilized this opportunity by selling their services to the highest bidders. The job of the mercenaries is to constantly prove their experience and effectiveness so that they can more and more contracts. The soldiers are not just simple soldiers they are nanomachine-enhanced soldiers. There is so much chaos and fighting that not even the civilians are safe from them.

Solid Snake’s mission in this setting is to save the world one last time. Initially he will be inserted undercover as an UN PMC inspector in the Middle East, to evaluate the situation of the troops there. But his main mission is to find and assassinate Liquid Ocelot. Liquid runs five of the largest PMCs in the world. Of course this is certainly not an easy task as he has surrounded himself with a group of highly deadly comrades. Among these are few females called Beauty and the Beast Corps. These females appear to be half machine and half women and they are all there to eliminate Solid Snake.

If you have played the earlier versions of the game then you will know that in each edition Snake was equipped with new gameplay mechanics. In this title there are tons of new features to explore. This game poses such sheer depth that you would simply be amazed by it. From the beginning in the Middle East, while fighting and escorting Meryl and her Rat Patrol, you will be able to realize the depth of this game.

In Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots you will see that Snake is no longer able to sneak behind an enemy neutralize him and use him weapons. In this title that restriction is imposed due to the nanomechanies as each weapon is ID-coded to their respective users. But don’t get dishearten as there are many more ways to get weapons. There is a strange character in the game called Drebin, who will remove all safeguards from firearms for you. Of course there is a price to it, but he does offer discounts. You will notice that Drebin is always available for Snake to supply him with weapons and fulfill his needs.

The Presentation of the game is really extraordinary and I have to say that it’s even good enough to be made into a full length feature film. The action packed missions will engage you right from the beginning till the end. Coming on to the graphics side: This game possesses incredible detail and visuals are simply breathtaking, with some of the best camera angles. There were many expectations from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots but it not only satisfied all of those it simple shattered them and created a new benchmark for all future action game series. This game will really have a lasting appeal on everyone who experiences it. You will play this game again and again, it’s that good.

Closing comments from me is very simple. If you love playing action games just go and get a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It’s worth every single penny.
