As someone who loves pictures and works with them often, I am hooked on this program. Microsoft Picture It offers all kinds of useful, fun and imaginative projects and features.

When a surprise party was planned for my brother's 40th birthday, I dug out all the funny pictures of him that I could find. I then went to Picture It and began looking for ideas. My favorite section for this was "fun stuff". I was able to make magazine covers, front page newspapers and even money using his pictures. You can also swap heads on a monkey. You can add text, so I made up crazy headlines or captions to go with each picture. I had so much fun working on this project that I laughed as I worked, feeling like the evil, sinister sister. Not only was he having a surprise party held in a restaurant, all these creations of mine were going to be hanging on the wall for everyone to see. My brother has a great sense of humor, so I knew he'd be okay with it.

There is much you can do with this program besides making goofy pictures. It also makes business cards, flyers, calendars, banners, certificates and cards. You can make a frame to go around your picture or change the picture into the shape of a star or heart or distort the picture in several different ways.

When I'm not using it for silly things, I use it for touchups, such as removing wrinkles, scratches or fixing red eye. It easily removes dust spots from photos, from tiny little ones to larger ones. You can have the program do it automatically or choose to do it on your own. I scan a lot of pictures and often find spots on them that I don't see on the picture or the scanner, so this lets me improve the results.

My program is the '99 version and I still use it regularly. I can only imagine what the newer ones can do. My brother will be turning 50 very soon. Hmmmmm......
