Midsomer Murders is a British crime/drama series about the crimes occurring in the Midsomer community that are solved by Barnaby and Troy. Tom Barnaby is a Detective Chief Inspector (played by John Nettles) who solves several murders along with his partner Detective Sergeant Gavin Troy. He is a very experienced detective with a keen eye for solving notorious crimes; Gavin Troy is a young, comical, inexperienced deputy who assists Barnaby and often makes incorrect predictions in investigations. The secondary characters are Joyce Barnaby - the wife of Tom Barnaby - and Cully Barnaby - their daughter.
Midsomer Murders is an intriguing TV show that is filled with suspense, shock, and “Ohh, he killed him, but why?” The only criticism I would have on the series is that sometimes there are not enough clues given for the viewer to solve the crime him/herself. What I love about Midsomer Murders are the crimes, and the interesting motives the criminals had. Each investigation is unique. It gets exciting when the investigation starts to reach its peak, and all the clues, and characters start to piece together.
Midsomer Murders still airs on television stations, but it is also purchasable on DVD. I purchased “The Early Case Collection” for about $150.00. The set includes 19 discs and about 73 episodes. It seems costly but it is actually a very great deal! The show first aired in 1997 and there are currently 81 episodes as of 2011. New episodes are still being filmed.
