Located at Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda, Florida is the Military Heritage Museum. This museum is dedicated to all Veterans of every war and military installation.

The plans for this museum is to build a large building and be able to house all of the wonderful artifacts and donated pieces from Veterans of the United States of America. The current location of the museum is at the entrance of the boardwalk into Fisherman's Village, which is located on the Gulf of Mexico of Florida.

The museum has many pieces on display but so much more is currently in storage. They always are willing to take donations, whether it be military materials or monetary donations.

The museum if free of charge and open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 8pm and Sunday noon until 6pm. They are closed on only 3 holidays - Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

When you walk through the museum, you can inquire about anything that is on display or talk with the volunteers and find out about their experiences while being in service. Even though many of the volunteers may have had hard memories to remember, they are still willing to tell you about everything they went through and show you around.

I would recommend planning on staying at least two hours so that you can read the donated letters, view the medals and weaponry, see the uniforms and just the many, many items that have helped make our nation what it is today.

There are sad moments when you realize all of those who have died, been injured or sacrificed much by serving our country, but we owe them SO much and mostly our gratitude.

It you'd like to check out what the museum has online, here is their website - The Military Heritage Museum - which many don't even know exists. Please plan to check it out whenever you visit SW Florida's beautiful Gulf Coast. The images shown belong solely to the museum and many more can be seen online and of course, in person.

And please THANK A VETERAN whenever you see one. You just never know if you are the only one who has.

Here is their address:

Fisherman's Village is located close to many hotels and there are several restaurants to eat at in Fisherman's Village. We prefer Harpoon Harry's, which is at the very end of the boardwalk. Great views of the sunset can be seen from most any place at the Village. There is also shopping available.

You can provide your own transportation - come either by boat or ground transportation to get here.
