Mint.com is a website that helps people track their expenses. It synchronizes with your bank to track every transaction. A new feature for Mint is the ability to also track your cash transactions. This site is safe and very useful!
My favorite part about this is that you can categorize each transaction; The categories are even able to be customized, which sets this aside from my personal banking website. With these categories, using Mint.com allows you to create a personal budget, alerting you when you have exceeded that budget. Alerts can be set up via email or text. If you are anything like me, sticking to a budget is crucial-especially in this economy when there is no such thing as extra money! Maybe the best feature of all, utilizing the categories to the fullest, is the 'trends' feature. This allows you to find out once and for all where all of your hard-earned money is going! Personally, I have found that we spend too much money on fast food/restaurants. This allows me to create a budget and stick to it. The trends can be seen by pie chart, or a graph.
Now, as a skeptic by nature, I read up on this for about an hour before deciding to enter my bank account information. The good news is that this is a read only service and has no access to changing anything in your account. Because Mint.com does not store your data and financial transactions cannot be made with Mint, employees and Mint hackers will never have access to this information. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 is because there is a bit of a lag when it comes to updating transactions. The longest mine has taken is 2 days.
Overall, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. I love programs that take the hassle out of having to log into many accounts; Consolidating all accounts into one easy quick stop is so much easier!
