The fact I am a frog biologist nearly made my daughter's owning the book Monday the Bullfrog a requirement.
Monday the Bullfrog, by Matthew Van Vleet, is a board book in the form of a puppet. It is the story of a frog that eats something different every day. Each day has a separate page with a little textured animal sticking out of it. If it doesn't bother your child to know that the cute little mouse pictured is Monday's breakfast, your little one will enjoy this.
This book isn't a traditional board book, and I find it a little hard to handle. The puppet really isn't that functional because once you stick your hand in it the pages in its mouth flop around. Nonetheless, my daughter does like going through this book and making all the mouse tails and dragonfly wings crackle. She especially likes the mirror in the back, which suggests that Monday will eat HER for dinner.
The book is cute, and I like that it teaches what frogs eat and where they live. I'd rather it didn't come in the form of a puppet, but I'd recommend it just the same.
