This is a true story of the extraordinary life of Mother Angelica. It is beautifully written by Raymond Arroyo. He had many interviews with Mother Angelica before writing this book. Mother Angelica was born in Canton, Ohio in 1923 and was given the name Rita Rizzo. Her father abandoned her and she was raised in poverty by her mother. As a young girl she suffered from severe abdominal pain. A mystic prayed over her and she was healed. It was at that time that she vowed to live her life devoted to God. She became a nun totally dependant on God's help to build the world's first Catholic cable network. She began this project in the basement of her Alabama monastery with a mere two hundred dollars. Mother Angelica relied solely on God's providence to achieve the great accomplishment of building the world's largest media empire. She faced many obstacles in obtaining this goal. This book stresses her deep devotion and fierce loyalty to God through countless setbacks. Mother Angelica demonstrates great courage and trust in God which makes this a wonderful inspiring book to read. According to Time Magazine, Mother Angelica is the most influential Catholic woman in America. She is the founder of EWTN, (The Eternal Word Television Network) which reaches over a hundred million viewers throughout the world. I have recommended this book to many friends. It is so easy to connect with Mother Angelica. I have heard her speak many times on her EWTN program. She has quite a sense of humor. I love it when she laughs at her own jokes. I watch the reruns of years ago. Unfortunately, her speech is impaired since she suffered two strokes. Nevertheless, her courage, simplicity and great faith in God has been an inspiration to me as well as the rest of the viewing audience. I love her especially because she radiates the love of a mother.
