In 2003 when I had my first health crisis, I was in a German hospital for about five weeks. The only available entertainment was a TV with German programming, which I had to pay to use, and a radio with German folk music, which was free. My roommate was German and my nurses and doctors were native-speaking Germans. Although they could speak English, it could get lonely sometimes.

My husband bought me a DVD player so that I could watch a movie or two during the day when I was too tired to get out of bed. For a little entertainment, I tried to translate Jack Benny and other shows to my German roommate. Some of it was self-explanatory.

So in the last few weeks when this DVD player gave up the ghost, actually the motor quit turning. I was devastated. If I ever had to go back into the hosptial for any reason--it could happen because of my disease and because of my kidney problems--I wouldn't have my entertainment. Plus this DVD player has been hooked up to my TV.

We looked through many of the electronic stores around our city. They were just too expensive until we happened on this Memorex DVD portable player at Office Depot. It was much less expensive than our last player, it had a bigger screen, and a battery for four hours of watching pleasure.

After buying this electronic marvel, it didn't take long for it to be hooked up and we were watching our favorite series: CSI, CSI NY, and CSI Miami. We have been watching every night and so far the DVD player is keeping up with us. By the way it has a full-function remote as well.

My only problem with the remote is that it is pretty small and can disappear in the paper junk on our table. It can take several minutes to find it. Otherwise I am very pleased with our purchase.
