At my job the computer we work on are being used 24 hours a day, with no breaks in between. I work at one of the terminals for 12 hours, then my relief comes in and works the next 12 hours. I work as a dispatcher for Sheriff's Office so they are radio terminals on a desk. I have 2 keyboards, one for the main computer, and one for the phone computer, and I also have 5 computer monitors in front of me, along with 2 mice. It is inevitable that if you do not clean your terminal before you sit down you will more than likely end up with a cold multiple times a year working here. I have heard that the average computer desk (including computer mice, telephones, etc) have 400x more germs than your average public toilet seat. BLAH!!! I can only assume that 400 is a lot more in my workplace because we share terminals.
In order to solve my germy desk problem I wipe my desk down everyday when I come in. I found the best product for this when I was shopping in Albertson's one day! They are Mr. Clean Disinfecting Wipes stored in a container with an easy-glide dispensing top! Each container contains 35 premoistened wipes that have a fresh clean scent. With the easy-glide dispenser it dispenses the wipes almost like a tissue box would, one wipe at a type so you don't take out more than you need. They are recommended for countertops, appliances, door handles, light switches, toilets, sinks, and tubs. They also kill bacteria which is exactly what I need!
Knock on wood, but since I've religiously started using these before every shift on my desk I have not gotten sick. So yay for Mr. Clean!
