Every year since 1982, the Mount Hood Jazz Festival comes together in Gresham, Oregon to entertain the masses. Each year is commemorated with a poster, and the sale of these posters help fund festival events. Jazz artists from far and wide sign up to perform at this venue with many nationally renowned artists among them.
In 1990, my sister in law worked at the printing company, that printed the posters for the jazz festival that year. In fact, she personally knew the artist that created the poster. Since the poster was special to her, she was able to secure several posters for herself. Because she knew that the posters would eventually be collectibles, she carefully chose the people she would give them to. Fortunately she gave one of them to me, and I immediately had it framed.
As the story goes, all of the Mount Hood Jazz Festival posters have a piano in them... or at least, some part of a piano. I've gone to their web site and looked at the collection of posters from over the years, and sometimes the piano is obvious, but other times I don't see one at all! If there IS one in some of them, it's like a "Where's Waldo" kind of thing, 'cuz I sure don't see it! (Go here to see for yourself: http://www.mthoodjazz.org/posters.php )
I've had this poster hanging in my home(s) in various places over the years. The last time I searched the Internet for information regarding it, I found someone selling the same poster for 400.00! Who knew?! I'll hang on to mine for now, but in the future, if the price is right...
