I just started reading a new mystery series by Selma Eichler. This series features heroine, Desiree Shapiro. She is a widowed lady living in New York and doing private investigation work.
In this novel, Desiree finds herself helping a young man, Jerry, who works at the grocery store and is accused of murdering Mrs. Garrity, an elderly lady who lived in Desiree's niece's apartment building. Desiree believes that Jerry is innocent, but the police have him pegged as the killer since he made deliveries to Mrs. Garrity's apartment and his fingerprints were found on the refrigerator door, where Mrs. Garrity stored a bundle of cash. It doesn't look good for Jerry, but Desiree is determined to clear him and find out who did kill Mrs. Garrity. When another murder occurs in the same building, Desiree really has her work cut out for her.
I found this book to be enjoyable, and a twist at the end was a nice surprise. I will definitely be reading more Desiree Shapiro mysteries by Selma Eichler.
