I have gotten to really like Selma Eichler as an author. When I read my first book by this author, I didn't know what to expect, since I hadn't read any of her novels before, but she is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I enjoy her writing style, and she knows how to make me chuckle.
Murder Can Mess Up Your Mascara is one in a series of novels that Selma Eichler has written that centers around private investigator Desiree Shapiro. Desiree resides in New York and usually handles simple cases, but every once in a while she gets something really exciting or mysterious to deal with. In this book, Desiree is hired by Gordon Curry, who fears that someone is out to kill him. Two attempts have been made on his life already, and he wants Desiree to track down the killer before a third, and maybe final, attempt on his life can be made. Desiree takes on the case, but she has only been working on it for about two days when the unthinkable happens. Her client is murdered, and she feels so guilty about not being able to save his life. The current spouse of her deceased client wants Desiree to keep working on the case to find out who murdered her husband, and that is just what Desiree intends to do.
I enjoyed this book, as I have all of the Desiree Shapiro Mysteries that I've read so far. If you want to be entertained by a lighthearted murder mystery with a likable heroine, Murder Can Mess Up Your Mascara would probably be just the type of book you would want to read.
